World of Warcraft – The Trilogy

Well its official we have 2 more months until the Add-on will be released, blizzard has already posted the release date to 11.13.2008 but let’s not rush into things and see what has happened in the past years and let’s see how the new patch will affect the game-play.

A brief history: The game was released on November 23, 2004, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. And was an instant success due to the innovative game-play, story line witch always was a strong point from blizzard, and the massive multi player content. Easily year after year the population grew and WoW now holds about 65% of the entire MMORPG online games market with 10 million subscribers. You would be amazed to find out that in the early beginning there was little to this game, like it was focused ONLY on PVE (Player –VS-Environment) encounters, the game didn’t actually had a battleground, the only PVP (Player-VS-Player) done was when a bunch of people gathered and tried their luck on the other factions capital, thus the name World PVP. After complains since not all the servers were full Blizzard implemented Battlegrounds in which opposing faction members could fight to the death in achieving a common goal.

Ok let’s see now the World Of Warcraft Content:
We got 2 Major Factions that are Playable:
The Alliance : in which we have a group of charismatic characters like :

With every race you chose you will be given an option of several classes to choose from:

Warrior Class:
Blizzard: “A typical warrior is strong, tough, and exceptionally violent.”
Now our review: WarriorMelee class (meaning he has no spells only uses Weapons)

Warrior

Warrior

The warrior is your basic meat for the cannons; he is always first in line. Blizzard throw the help of Talents (We will discuss those bit later.) give you 3 different options to play with this class. The first one is ARMS this is your basic PvP spec since it delivers a massive amount of damage in a short time with a debuff that will decrease healing on a target, and it’s based on using a 2-Hander weapon (a weapon that occupies both your hands in wielding it). So if you want a more PvP game play you will surely end up using this spec. The second Choice is FURY this is a dual wielding spec (witch mean you will have 2 weapons in your hands, 1 in your main hand and another in your off-hand), this is a spec for your PVE encounter as a damage dealer. Basically when you will go into a dungeon and you want to do damage you will have to be this spec in order to achieve that goal. And finally but not least PROTECTION which is one of the most basic and most needed in this game , you are the “Tank” when you go into a dungeon , you will need to keep all the mobs( enemy creatures found in the game) on yourself so that your party will be able to do their jobs without getting killed. Tanking is one of the warriors excellent asset and will always be needed in the game so be careful if your choosing this class you will undoubtedly end up sooner or later as Protection spec, tanking instances.

Priest Class:
Blizzard: “Through their unique insight into the mind, they are able to shape an individual’s beliefs, whether to inspire or terrify, soothe or dominate, heal or harm.”
Our review : PriestCaster Class (Meaning it doesn’t use weapons but spells for its offensive abilities)

Priest

Priest

If you didn’t understand nothing from the above sentence don’t worry ,the priest is one class that is very complex in all its ways but will give you the full explanation. The Priest has also 3 builds to chose from and all 3 will take you into another part of the game-play first one is Discipline, if you choose to go this patch you will be a PVP Healer, which means that you will be able to heal very well individual members but for a short while due to low mp5 (we will discuss this later on). This spec is viable for PvP-ing all the time but if you want to be a “real” PVE Healer you will need to spec HOLY this is the talent tree used if you want to do dungeons and be good at it. Basically you are the doctor of the team you will have to keep everyone alive and well throw your endeavors in the dungeons you will encounter. The last spec is SHADOW is one that allows you to convert from Healing to a Damage dealing machine throw Shadow spells , this is a spec with multi functionality and you will discover it viable for both PvP and PvE encounters.

Rogue Class:
Blizzard: “rogues are a blend of stealth and minor mysticism”
Our Review: Rogues are the masters of deception;

Rogue

Rogue

They are the perfect class if you want to experience an unseen part of the game, meaning that your abilities will always grant you the first strike on your opponents. All 3 specs available throw talents will end in massive dps for both PvP and PvE . Assassination will mean that you will be using daggers in your main hand and in offhand also doing great damage but in bursts, COMBAT spec will mean that you are a PvE more kind of guy and you will be able to do massive amount of damage and for a long time and finally Subtlety king of survival PvP based spec that will allow you to use special abilities to always get out of trouble. That being said the rogue is a perfect choice if you want to be stealthy, fast, and agile and be a damage dealer in the dungeons that await you in world of warcraft.

Hunter Class:
Blizzard: “wherever hunters go, they fight back the ravages of sickness, exploitation and industrialization.”
Our review: Hunters are you 3’rd major class, ranged damage, all 3 of their talents will reflect a damage only class that is very useful in PvP and PvE .

Hunter

Hunter

Their main weapon is their bow, and their ability to control a pet .You will find this class very easy to play with since its Pet will do about 50% of the work leaving you freely to dps (damage per second) from a distance and thus never letting you get into the harm’s way. They deploy an arsenal of traps and tricks to capture, and kill their enemies.

Druid Class:
Blizzard: “Druid live in state of unparalleled union with nature”
Our review: We tell you that druids are the Forces of Nature literally, they can shape shift into a variety of animals with different rolls, and they are a Hybrid class which means that they can do multiple roles.

Druid

Druid

Druid

Druid

For the druid you will be able to choose 3 different specs all 3 totally different one from another: Balance this spec will allow you to transform yourself into a Moonkin , which is a bird like creature with massive spell power abilities (Spell Caster) and thus you will be able to do damage in dungeons. Feral is your next talent tree with will allow you to perform the role of a warrior tank, druid tank will be able to go into a Dire Bear Form with will increase their armor and health to allow them to tank. Furthermore you will be able also to do damage when you will shape shift into Cat form and allow you to do Melee dps. Last spec is Restoration this spec will allow you to shape shift yourself into a Tree Form and you will be effectively a healer and a very good one. So you see a druid is a hybrid because it can perform multiple tasks ranging from tanking to dps and ending in healing. This is a very complex class and if you’re up for the challenge you will never get bored with it.

Shaman Class:
Blizzard: “Shaman commune directly with the elements”
Our review: Another Hybrid class, the shaman is a powerful foe to reckon with.

Shaman

Shaman

He poses the power or earth storm and lightning and the 3 specs available for him will take you from Caster to Melee dps. Elemental is your basic Spell Caster wielding powerful lightning bolts and fire, frost and earth magic. He does massive amounts of damage in short bursts. Enhancement is the melee side of the shaman, allowing you to dual wields 2 weapons and do crazy damage and buffing all the other party members especially the melee classes. Restoration is the final talent tree that allows you to do be a healer, performing all the other healers’ task only in another way. This class was once reserved only for Horde members but with the patch The Burning Crusade it was launched in the alliance side also playable from the draenai race.

Warlock Class:
The Warlock is a pure damage class, a spell caster that doesn’t rely on direct damage to kill its foes but on DOTs: curses, diseases and magic spells to slowly drain their life.

Warlock

Warlock

They also employ the help of a creature, a demonical pet that has different abilities, you will be able to choose from a variety of them according to your specific needs at that time. His talent tree involves specs that for example AFFLICTION, enhances the power of your Over Time spells, making them more deadly and giving you new spells to chose from, or DEMONOLOGY which gives you a new animal and also strengthens the bond of you and your pet and finally DESTRUCTION in which you will have more direct spells, and will do damage throw direct spells mainly. The warlock will always be a class in demand due to his great damage and also to his raid contributions.

Mage Class:
Blizzard: “Magi are wizards of immense knowledge and skill”
Mage’s are the Casters Pure damage side, on every spec available for them they will do immense damage either throw AOE spells (AOE=Area of Effect) or throw direct spells.

Mage

Mage

Mages are one of the classes that employ the best crow control measures and buffs by doing so they are highly wanted into parties and raids alike. The Talent tree is made out of ARCANE, FIRE and FROST, and you can tell by their name that they are affiliated with the spells the mage will use and each spec will only make a certain spell more powerful. What can I tell you is that Frost is the main PvP spec used by mages at the moment because it offers a high survivability for mages.

Paladin Class:
Well yet again we are faced with a hybrid class that can do multiple tasks, only this time the 2 that he does good differ from the rest throw different ways.

Paladin

Paladin

For example if you pursue the HOLY tree you will become a excellent healer on a single target being able to keep that target alive throw a long period of time , the minus here is that he cannot be so good at a raid healing with multiple targets since all his spells are with a casting time. For PROTECTION spec you will be able to tank, once you get good gear, small instances and even go to raids, the major difference is that you cannot tank bosses so easily but you have a really good advantage throw AOE (AOE=Area of Effect) tanking which means you can tank at 1 time multiple mobs without the fear of them going to other party members. The last spec is RETRIBUTION which is a combination of Melee power and some unusual spells called seals to do short bursts of damage.

Now that we discussed a bit about the classes let’s see what else can we do in World Of Warcraft: Well each character after you made it will have some options left free at your ddisposal to be chosen and from those we have The Professions (which can be Primary and Secondary ) , Skills and Reputations.

Let’s take The Professions:

Primary Professions:

You will be able to choose 2 Primary Professions and all the secondary ones, the primary will consist of one of the following:

  1. Blacksmithing – Basic melee profession will allow the user to craft amours, weapons and shield to wear and fight with. It mainly builds Mail and Plate amours and also allows crafting of weapons. It is a very popular choice if you are a warrior.
  2. Leatherworking – This profession allows the user to craft Leather and Mail amours along with patches of amours that can be used in boosting your current gear with different stats. Popular choice for rogues, druids, and shamans.
  3. Alchemy – You guessed it, it’s about making potions and elixirs and flasks to boost the performance of a player for a certain amount of time. This is a universal profession and can be used by anyone, and it’s especially good if you have an active PvE experience and undoubtedly you will always be in need of this profession.
  4. Enchanting – It’s a kind of “buffing” profession in which you can enhance the gear with certain stats. It is highly appreciated but very hard to skill up since it takes a lot of rare recopies to do it.
  5. Tailoring – A widely used profession by Spell Casters since it focuses mostly on crafting items made from Cloth , it is a very good profession for mages , lock , priest since it offers gear for them without having to go throw the problems of doing dungeons to gather gear up.
  6. Engineering – Skill used to create all kind of contraptions that will help you in one way or another , also allows the construction of weapons but be careful all what you gain from here has a slight chance of backfiring 😛
  7. Herbalist – Allows the user to pick flowers, this is mainly used by alchemists so that both of these professions go hand in hand.
  8. Mining – Another profession that allows the user to mine veins and deposits of ore in order to help you skill the Blacksmithing skill , or the engineering one.
  9. Skinning – Allows the user to skin the beasts he kills, thus going hand in hand with Leatherworking.

The Secondary professions:

You will be able to choose all the secondary professions available in the game, they are:

  1. Fishing – gives you the ability to track and catch fishes that you can later use for cooking or just sell. Another interesting thing is that you might get lucky and “catch” something else.
  2. First Aid -gives you the ability to craft bandages that you can use to heal yourself even in combat situations. It’s a “must have profession” if you are nota healer since it will undoubtedly help you one time or another. Also healers take this skill since it is easy to level up and also had its advantages.
  3. Cooking – Allows you to make a basic campfire and start preparing the food that you acquired either throw killing mobs or throw fishing. The food created gives buffs for a certain period of time.

Now that we discussed Professions, we can take a look at skills, they are very common and most of what you do in the game will have a skill tree, which if you do it often will increase in level. For example if you have an Axe in your hand and use it all the time you skill with that weapon will grew and making it a lethal weapon. Some skills can be level just by wearing a item and using it , and some need to be bought , like the Ridding skill which will allow you to use a Horse as a mount to make the travelling around more easily and enjoyable.

Reputations

The reputation factor plays a major role in world of warcraft because as you help one faction you will get reputation with it, but also this actmight upset a different faction that isn’t too keen on your allegiance to their enemies. So you will need to be careful in which side you pick because it will influence witch mobs you will kill , which quest you will be given and also the most important what rewards you will receive with the specified faction. You will start in most of the cases with Neutral Reputation and as you advance in gaining the factions favor you will become Friendly, Honored, Exalted and Revered. Each of the level of reputation will reward you with different items and consumables.

PVE content:

Blizzard made the PvE content to contain Parties and Raids. A party will always consist out of 5 members; they will usually go for a dungeon with moderate difficulty level. Undoubtedly you need a warrior (tank), a healer and 3 damage dealers of your choosing. A raid on the other side is consisting out of 20 members for some of the lesser raid dungeons and out of 40 members for a big raid dungeon.

PvE Raid Killing Ragnaros

PvE Raid Killing Ragnaros

The raid composition differs from dungeon to dungeon one of them requiring more tanks then others , one more healers , it is absolutely a choice of where you are going and the man power available to you.

PvE Raid Naxxramas Killing Kel'Thuzad

PvE Raid Naxxramas Killing Kel'Thuzad

The PvE aspect of the game is one of the most pleasant ones since it will allow you to see some pretty nice events and effects used by blizzard only in this part of the game. I would even go as far as to say that only when you reach 60 and start doing major raid dungeons you will see the best part of the game that blizzard has to offer. We won’t go into more details with this topic, all you need to know is that it is worth trying to see for yourself how the PvE end-game raiding is.

PvP content:

Blizzard introduced PvP at the demand of the customers to have a controlled environment where they can kill and duel opposing faction members in an ongoing struggle, thus the battlegrounds were born and we have 3 major ones to pick from:

Warsong Glutch:
Max Members allowed: 10 on each side (Alliance & Horde)
Objective: There are 2 bases and in each base there is a flag the objective is to capture the opposing factions flag and put it on top of your own flag in it spawn placement.

Alterac Valey:
Max Members Allowed: 40 on each side
Objective: AV is a battleground that can be won in different ways, either by destroying all of the opposing towers and bringing his reinforcement down to 0 or by killing the opposing faction General.
These battlegrounds bring forth both the alliance and horde members from the same server in one continuing battle for supremacy, all witch makes wow an epic game.
